Listening to Dr. David Jeremiah’s September 17 message on Turning Point brought to mind a simple but challenging thought: What if the change we’re praying for begins with us?
In Jonah 3, the people of Nineveh heard God’s message and responded. What followed wasn’t simply a change in circumstances; it was a change of heart.
We often pray for God to move in big ways. We want to see families restored, communities transformed, churches strengthened, and people drawn to Christ. Those are good prayers. But sometimes, while we’re looking for God to do something around us, He is inviting us to let Him do something within us.
Revival doesn’t have to begin with a crowd. It can begin with one person willing to listen and respond to God.
Maybe that means returning to His Word with fresh attention. Maybe it means forgiving someone, confessing something, or taking a step of obedience you’ve been putting off.
The encouraging truth is that God can do extraordinary things through an ordinary heart surrendered to Him.
So today, instead of only praying, “Lord, change the world around me,” perhaps we can also pray, “Lord, begin Your work in me.”
