John MacArthur (1939-2025) has gone home to be with the Lord, leaving behind a legacy marked by bold, unwavering commitment to the authority of Scripture and the gospel of Jesus Christ. For over five decades, he faithfully pastored Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, beginning in 1969 and continuing through the very end of his ministry.

MacArthur’s influence reached far beyond the pulpit. He served as president of The Master’s University beginning in 1985 and later helped found The Master’s Seminary in 1986, becoming chancellor emeritus of both institutions. Through it all, he remained grounded in a simple yet profound principle: “I explained the Bible with the Bible.”

For more than 40 years, John MacArthur’s teaching has aired on KHCB Radio through the program Grace to You, where his verse-by-verse Bible teaching impacted generations of listeners. He was the only Bible teacher ever featured on the broadcast. In 2012, he joined KHCB as the guest speaker for the ministry’s 50th anniversary celebration—an occasion that reflected the deep relationship between his teaching and KHCB’s mission. 

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia; their four children—Matt, Marcy, Mark, and Melinda; fifteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Though we mourn his passing, we rejoice in the eternal hope he proclaimed. And the ministry he helped build will continue to do what he always did: faithfully teach God’s Word.
