Have you ever noticed that tomorrow can feel heavy even before it ever arrives?
We wonder what will happen. We replay possibilities in our heads over and over. We try to solve conversations that haven’t taken place and prepare ourselves for circumstances that may never come.
A recent message from Dr. Tony Evans on The Alternative (Weekdays at 8:30 AM CST on KHCB) got us thinking about the way worry can quietly take up more and more space in our lives. In Overcoming Anxiety Strongholds (On Demand – August 11, 2026), Dr. Evans points listeners back to Jesus’ words in Matthew 6 and reminds us of an encouraging truth: you don’t have to live tomorrow today.
As we listened to and considered this message, we came up with four truths from Scripture to hold onto when the future begins to feel a little too heavy.
1. Your tomorrow is already in God’s hands.
If you’re anything like us, you’ll approach the future at times as though you’ll have to face it alone. But the God who is with you today will still be God tomorrow. Jesus reminds us that our Heavenly Father knows what we need (Matthew 6:31–32). The future may be unknown to us, but it isn’t unknown to Him.
Instead of asking, “How will I handle everything that might happen?” we can begin with a different question:
Can I trust the God who will meet me there?”
2. Today’s grace is enough for today.
Jesus says, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself” (Matthew 6:34).
There are responsibilities we need to plan for. There are wise decisions to make. But planning for tomorrow and carrying tomorrow are two different things. God hasn’t asked you to carry next week, next month or next year today. He’s invited you to walk faithfully with Him in this day.
3. Worry can become a prompt to pray.
Philippians 4:6–8 gives us a different direction for anxious thoughts: bring our concerns to God and turn our minds toward what is true.
When worry appears, it can become a reminder to pray: God, this is what I’m afraid of. This is what I can’t control. This is what I need to trust You with.
Prayer doesn’t require us to pretend the concern isn’t real. It gives us somewhere to place it and reminds us to return our attention to what is true about God. He is faithful. He is present. He cares.
4. You don’t need the whole path – just the next faithful step.
We often want God to show us how everything will work out. Instead, He frequently gives us enough light for the step we’re standing on.
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” — Psalm 119:105
A lamp doesn’t illuminate miles ahead. It gives enough light to keep walking.
Maybe that’s what you need today. Not every answer. Not a guarantee that everything will happen exactly as you hope. Just enough faith to take today’s step and trust God with the one after that.
You don’t have to live tomorrow today.
Take the next step. Say the prayer. Do what God has placed in front of you today.
And leave tomorrow in the hands of the One who is already there.
