“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6 (NIV)
Since the start of the pandemic, the number of people reporting anxiety nationwide is at an all -time high. According to Mental Health America, almost one in five people (47.1 million) in the U.S. are living with a mental health condition. Since last year, that number has increased by about 1.5 million. These are concerning and staggering statistics.
For those who are experiencing it daily, it can feel incapacitating. Most would likely share that it has a way of clouding their judgment and stealing their joy and gratitude. Whether or not we are experiencing mental health struggles, we can all concur that it is challenging to be grateful when we’re weighed down by worry and anxious thoughts.
Today’s scripture in Philippians offers all believers hope. In moments when worry and anxiety wreak havoc, we need to bring our concerns to God. The Holy Spirit then reminds us of His faithfulness, goodness and love. This becomes a provision of peace and a source of thankfulness for us today and every day.
Identify a worry or a need that has been plaguing you and bring it to the Lord in prayer today. Allow His peace to wash over you and trust in His love and provision. Allow that reality to let thankfulness for a loving God rise in your heart today.
